Initiating Phase

  1. Define the process that our organisation will follow to approve a project
  2. Whoever is authorised, create a proposal (Charter, or IM, or a combo)
  3. Client/Sponsor sign off on the proposal

Planning Phase

  1. Use the project proposal to create a Requirements Matrix
  2. Use the project proposal to create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
  3. Use the WBS to create a WBS Dictionary
  4. Use the WBS Dictionary to create a Project Budget
  5. Use the WBS Dictionary to create a Network Diagram (using post it notes or digital equivalent)
  6. Use the Network Diagram to create a Gantt Chart
  7. Use the Gantt Chart and WBS Dictionary to create a Time-Phased view of the Project Budget
  8. Create a Schedule & Cost Management Plan
  9. Create a Scope Management Plan
  10. Create a Quality Management Plan
  11. Client/Sponsor sign off on the 3 management plans

Executing Phase

Regular Activities:

  1. For every defined time period (e.g. everyday, every month, or every quarter), update:
    1. The Project Budget
    2. The Gantt Chart
  2. If SPI or CPI is less than 1 by the control %, take actions accordingly to bring cost and/or schedule back on track (e.g. $90k item costed us $100k, CPI = 0.90. Actions need to be taken to bring the full project’s budget back to CPI 1.00)
